The First Rehearsal (Live EP, 2022)
This live video documents a singular moment in Devourer’s history: the band’s first-ever rehearsal. Formed in 2002, Devourer operated for two decades without rehearsing as a band, making this session an event worth preserving.
The rehearsal took place at Rockhuset in Sandviken on August 27th, 2022, and was recorded by John Falk. An eight-channel audio interface and laptop were brought to the space, with roughly one hour spent configuring the recording setup. The channels were allocated to capture the session as directly as possible: kick drum (Shure Beta 52A), snare (SM57), stereo overheads for cymbals and toms, individual SM57s on each guitar amplifier, bass through a Darkglass Alpha Omega 900, and vocals via a Shure KSM8.
On September 6th, 2022, the material was mixed and mastered, and the video edited. All production work—audio and visual—was handled by John. The result is an unembellished record of a long-postponed convergence, capturing Devourer in a rehearsal space for the first time since the band’s formation.
Tracklist
1. Malformed (5:26)
music: john falk – lyrics: fredrik håf
Kneeling to receive a poisonous communion
Fear is accumulating with the blood-curdling screams
Far out in the sea, seven heads emerge
Distorting the balance, this storm is a breath from the bringer of light
Malformed, everything you touch will be malformed
And writhe in the depths of your failure
Lethality spikes with the multitudes
Perceive this curse through draconian eyes of night
An utterly malformed salvation
Receive this pestilent gift devoid of light
Twisted tongues forming words that essentially holds no value
Myriads of chaos in matter mind and soul
A great expansion of the void is now inevitable
The grandeur of madness is adorned with the afterbirth of the damned
To transgress the will of God
Is the definition of sovereignty of thy soul
I call upon the queen of the desert night
To snatch the unborn from the womb, from their wretched wombs!
2. Terminus (3:53)
music: john falk – lyrics: fredrik håf
Consummation - Of all the means to a irremeable end
Halls of worship - Frantically licked by voracious flames
A funeral shroud - Falls heavy on monotheistic faiths
Fine hominis - An insufferable path towards the terminus
Dead eyes staring - Contemptuously upon the ugly truths
Venomous - Is the bite from the subconscious
Denunciation - Of the constraints of the holy trinity
Terminus - The liberating thermodynamic fire
An unbearable plight lies ahead
Their pathetic lamentations echoes across the ruins of their former opulence
The heavy rain of naught trickles down their brow as they drag
Their feet across the shattered remains of prosperity
Bound to the cosmic threads that is entangled with the terminus
3. Finem Vitae Cura (5:46)
music: john falk – lyrics: fredrik håf
Bedridden with scabs that merged with the sheets
Cold sweat mixes with the desperate tears that runs to the lips so dry of thirst
While tired lungs are struggling with the phlegm
And eerie drowning breaths are the only sounds to be heard
A lonely candle burns and the shadows dances on the wall
To the silent music of sorrow that’s beginning to fill the room
Loved ones at the bed side tries to bring comfort
With egoistic hope that only fuels the catatonia
The stench of sickness stings in their nostrils
As their skin starts to ache and they shiver though there isn’t cold
They are beginning to develop the first early symptoms
Of a ruthless disease that in hindsight shall be considered the cure
The gaping hungry graves are yearning for nourishment
And the ravenous worms will soon grow fat on the decaying flesh
A plague that makes the black death pale in comparison
Humanity falls into the inevitable as corpses dry in the scorching sun
All dignity vanish with the weakening of the limbs
Why not just end it all while you still possess the strength?
Or are you too proud or just fearing your pathetic God
All though that none of your prayers have never been answered?
Join the ones that you loved six feet underground
After all it was them who gave you the meaning to go on
A last breath is drawn in the blood red dawn
And a sigh of relief is uttered to the cold caress of death
